Endocrinology Service
Endocrinology Service

Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that studies the functions and disorders of endocrine glands. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most important problems especially in pediatric endocrinology.

The Endocrinology Service of “Arabkir” MC offers consultations and treatment to children and adults with endocrine problems. The key component of the service is the Diabetes project, which started operating in 1996 with the support of “Semra” Foundation (Switzerland). The goal of this project is to provide children having diabetes with human insulin, modern self-monitoring devices, to monitor child’s health every month in order to prevent possible complications during the disease and improve the quality of life of children and adolescents with diabetes. Within the framework of the project the School of Diabetes was established, the purpose of which is to organize educational courses for children and their parents on self-monitoring methods, appropriate diet selection, etc.

The children using our services spend summer holidays in Aparan summer camp, which greatly contributes to their social integration and self-awareness. During their stay at the camp, children learn self-administration of insulin, self-monitoring of blood and urine glucose levels, participate in physical and various other developmental and recreational activities.

The medical staff of the project have been repeatedly trained in University Hospital’s in Switzerland.

Since 2005, “Arabkir” MC has been conducting newborn screening for congenital hypothyroidism for its early detection. All diagnosed patients are under follow-up care at “Arabkir” MC.
