Audiology is one of the branches of ENT, which diagnoses and treats hearing impairments, and works on the compensation of hearing function as well.
Even the slightest decrease of hearing can be a big obstacle to child’s speech development and other mental processes. Early diagnosis, medical supervision and rehabilitation are needed to avoid developmental complications. The whole complex of diagnosis and overcoming of hearing impairment is carried out with the help of modern equipment available in the audiologic service of “Arabkir” MC.

“Arabkir” MC Audiologic Dispensary is the only one in Armenia, where all children under the age of 18 with sensorineural hearing loss receive comprehensive dispensary services, such as:

• hearing tests

• provision of hearing aids

• customization of hearing aids and repair, if necessary 

• speech therapy or children under the age of 6

• dance and rhythmic classes for children under the age of 6

• psychological counseling

• sociological counseling

• computer classes

Since 2008, according to the program approved by the Ministry of Health of the RA, our center, together with “Erebuni” MC, has been conducting newborn hearing screening throughout the territory of the RA. 

Our specialists  participate in exchange programs and trainings in Armenia and European countries regularly to be informed about innovations in the field. 

With the help of doctors and children's parents "Havat" PO was founded in 1996, which has become a reliable partner with many programs and initiatives. The latest program is “Online Parenting School”, which has 15 video classes for families with children with hearing impairment.

Audiologic service conducts scientific research on early diagnosis of hearing impairments, adequate auditory prosthesis, and assessment of auditory perception. 

The center has modern equipment for hearing impairment diagnostics:

• Otoacoustic Emission Machine measures external hair cell function. The OAE is used for screening and in comprehensive audiological examination with other tests.

• Impedancemetry is used to detect middle ear problems.

• Clinical audiometer allows to perform multiple tests for complete diagnosis of hearing impairments, and to determine the type and stage of hearing loss.

• The Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) relies on behavioral conditioning to train very young kids to respond to sounds and It is designed for children aged 6 months to around 2 to 3 years old.

• The auditory steady-state response (ASSR) device records the activity of the auditory nerve and different parts of the brain to auditory stimuli. ASSR allows to determine the type and stage of hearing loss.
